BTEC National Diploma in Public Services  


Aims of the Course


The course will suit learners who want to prepare for entry into services including Police, Fire, Prison, Ambulance, Army, Navy, Air Force and Customs & Excise. The course helps to provide a good introduction to life in these services and develop learner’s personal effectiveness, problem solving and decision making skills and develop teamwork, leadership and communication skills. It also
prepares learners for Higher Education and Degree level study.

This course is eligible as part of the Army Bursary scheme.

Course content
The course consists of 18 modules, including core and specialistmodules such as:
• Government, Policies and the Public Services
• Team Leadership in the Uniformed Public Services
• Citizenship, Contemporary Society and the Public Services
• Team Development in Public Services
• Understanding Discipline within the Uniformed Public Services
• Diversity and the Public Services
• Physical Preparation and Fitness for the Uniformed Services
• International Perspectives for the Uniformed Public Services
• Outdoor and Adventurous Expeditions
• Skills for Land-based Outdoor and Adventurous Activities
• Skills for Water-based Outdoor and Adventurous Activities
• Crime and its Effects on Society
• Command and Control in the Uniformed Public Services
• The Planning for and Management of Major Incidents
• Responding to Emergency Service Incidents
• Uniformed Public Services Employment
• Understanding the Criminal Justice System and Police Powers
• Understanding Behaviour in Public Sector Employment
• Custodial Care of Individualse.

A variety of roles including Police Service, Fire Service, Ambulance Service, Prison Service, Customs & Excise, Army, Royal Navy, Royal Marines, Royal Air Force, Voluntary Sector, Rescue Services..


Successful Completion

Successful completion could allow you opportunities to study additional qualifications within the other sectors as they have direct GCSE and A Level equivalence and gives you the relevant, transferable skills that will be welcomed by colleges, universities and employers..

Programme Area: Business, Leisure and Technology
Course Length: Two years full-time.
Qualifications Needed:

4 GCSE passes at grades A - C, preferably in English and Maths or an equivalent related qualification

Interview required: Yes.
Fee: £35 admin fee + If you are aged 19+ a fee may be payable - please check with Student Services.
Additional Costs: Yes for residential and visits/trips.
Course specific polo shirt.
