To equip students with
a broad base of basic skills and knowledge. It
is aimed to introduce the student to the employment
area they have chosen and provides a good basis
to move on to more advanced qualifications. A high Merit / Distinction can lead to opportunities to study at higher levels.
Course Content
All students study the following Core units:
• Communication and Individual Rights within
Health & Social Care Sectors
• Individual Needs within the Health &
Social Care Sectors
All students will also study four Specialist units:
• Vocational Experience in a Health &
Social Care Setting
• Anatomy and Physiology for Health &
Social Care
• Human Lifespan Development
• Creative and Therapeutic Activities in
Health & Social Care.

Entry level employment
within care settings and other health & social
care environments.
Successful
Completion
With high Merit / Distinction could allow progression onto BTEC National Diploma in Health Studies.

at grade D or above - one must be English or a BTEC Introductory Diploma in Health and Social Care (Distinction).

The course is assessed
through a range of methods, including case
studies, coursework and a minimum of three
projects/assignments and work placement experience
for a minimum of 60 hours.
