BTEC First Diploma in Health and Social Care

Aims of the Course

To equip students with a broad base of basic skills and knowledge. It is aimed to introduce the student to the employment area they have chosen and provides a good basis to move on to more advanced qualifications. A high Merit / Distinction can lead to opportunities to study at higher levels.

Course Content

All students study the following Core units:
• Communication and Individual Rights within Health & Social Care Sectors
• Individual Needs within the Health & Social Care Sectors

All students will also study four Specialist units:
• Vocational Experience in a Health & Social Care Setting
• Anatomy and Physiology for Health & Social Care
• Human Lifespan Development
• Creative and Therapeutic Activities in Health & Social Care.


Jobs and Careers

Entry level employment within care settings and other health & social care environments.

Successful Completion

With high Merit / Distinction could allow progression onto BTEC National Diploma in Health Studies.

Programme Area: Care and Childcare.
Course Length: One flexible year full or part time.
Qualifications Needed:

One of the following:
4 GCSEs at grade D or above - one must be English or a BTEC Introductory Diploma in Health and Social Care (Distinction).

Interview required: Yes + reference and CRB clearance.
Fee: £35 admin fee + If you are aged 19+ a fee may be payable - please check with Student Services.
Additional Costs: Uniform for placement and course textbook.

Qualifications Achieved: BTEC First Diploma in Health & Social Care.
Examination/Assessment The course is assessed through a range of methods, including case studies, coursework and a minimum of three projects/assignments and work placement experience for a minimum of 60 hours.
