Local company Intelect of
Kidderminster, is forging itself an enviable reputation
as on of the leaders in the home automation and home
entertainment markets. It is also one of thousands
of businesses across the UK which has benefited from
training an Apprentice.
Here is a company clearly demonstrating a dynamic
approach to training, evidence of commercial gain
and positive plans for future Apprenticeship Training…
Why Intelect believes
in the Apprenticeship Scheme
The young, aspiring company saw a niche area in housing
and commercial electrical work, in the field of ‘intelligent
wiring’ and home entertainment systems. In just
18 months the company continues to go from strength
to strength and can already boast an attractive portfolio
of prestigious contracts. But it recognised that if
it were to maintain its stronghold within the market,
then it had to invest in good staff and first class
training…
Apprenticeships could help them to stay competitive
by developing the kind of people their business needs.
They wanted ‘can do’ people in their workforce.
They wanted to offer the opportunity for Apprentices
to be an integral part of their organisation and realised
that vocational training could provide them with a
highly skilled, loyal and productive workforce which
could in turn only help boost further their profile
and financial success.
Relevant Training
By July 06 and after just 18 months of trading, Intelect
have three Apprentices in training with Kidderminster
College: Steve Wilcox and Dan Welch are currently
on their 2-year programmes, studying for City and
Guilds 2330 qualification (NVQ Level 2), whilst Chris
Willitts is nearing the end of his Advanced Apprenticeship,
incorporating City and Guilds 236 Pt 2 and AM2 Test
(NVQ Level 3).
Improved Productivity
In addition to their innovative approach to electrical
installation which marks them out as being different
from other local electrical companies, Intelect aims
to continue to expand its range of abilities, broadening
its markets and helping house builders to differentiate
their properties from the offerings of their competitors.
They continue to research new ways of doing things
and as such engage their Apprenticeships in all such
projects too, encouraging free and creative thinking.
On-going prestigious contract wins are testimony to
the company’s continual improvement and growth
and perhaps also to their commitment to work based
learning for their young employees and embedding a
training culture within their company. Self discipline
and team work are also nurtured throughout the team,
which they believe in turn has resulted in…Loyal,
Motivated and Effective People.
From such a small beginning, Intelect have grown to
a company employing seven staff and have just been
Highly Commended in the Most Promising New Business
category of the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Chamber
of Commerce 2006 Awards. And this is just the beginning!.
