Kidderminster College vocational art and design programmes are offered across a range of disciplines, including fine art, 3D, graphic design, textiles and photography. The will allow you to explore your creativity, learn new techniques and specialise in an area of your choice.

Level 3 VTCT Diploma in Complementary Therapies

Course Content

This qualification will provide the learner with the skills to communicate with the client and plan and deliver complementary therapy treatments. To be a Level 3 Complementary Therapist it is essential that you can demonstrate competence in dealing with clients, using information for planning treatments and providing treatments that are both safe and effective. You will gain underpinning knowledge of anatomy and physiology, consultation techniques and the common effects and techniques of massage, aromatherapy and reflexology in order to provide complementary therapy treatments. You will be required to carry out a number of case study treatments for the practical units of this qualification.

  • Principles and practices of Complementary Therapies

  • Business practice for Complementary Therapies

  • Health, safety and hygiene

  • Knowledge of anatomy, physiology and pathology

  • Knowledge of less common pathology

  • Provide body massage

  • Reflective practice for body massage

  • Provide aromatherapy

  • Reflective practice for aromatherapy

  • Provide reflexology

  • Reflective practice for reflexology


Functional skills will be incorporated into the programme.


Additional Unit:



  • Healthy eating and well-being for the Complementary Therapy client.

Jobs and Careers

A wide variety of employment opportunities exist within the area of Complementary Therapies. This qualification is appropriate for those learners who wish to pursue a career in the Complementary Therapy industry e.g. within a salon or spa environment.

Progression routes: This qualification provides progression to further training in other Complementary Therapies and Level 4 qualifications, foundation degrees or degrees in Complementary Therapies.
Duration: One year full time
Entry requirements: 4 GCSEs at grade C or above or equivalent in English and Double Science plus 2 other academic subjects. Mature learners are very welcome to apply.

Examinations / assessment: Direct teaching, instruction and formative (ongoing) assessments, directed assignments or research, supported individual study. Learners will be required to carry out a number of case studies for practical units. Independent assessment paper.
