Level 3 VRQ in Sports and Fitness
Course Content
This qualification is aimed at learners who already have achieved a Level 2 qualification in Fitness Instructing. The aim of this qualification is to recognise the skills, knowledge and competence required to work unsupervised as a personal trainer. This includes being able to offer one-to-one training, baseline assessment, nutritional advice and progressive programming which is specific to the individual need of the client. The course is made up of the following units:
- Functional anatomy, physiology and nutrition for sports therapies
- Applying sports massage methods to non-pathological tissue
- Supporting clients who take part in exercise and physical activity
- Health, safety and welfare in a fitness environment
- Principles of exercise, fitness and health
- Anatomy and physiology for exercise and health
- Programming personal training with clients
- Delivering personal training sessions
- Applying the principles of nutrition to a physical activity programme
Functional Skills will be incorporated into the programme.

| Entry requirements: | Learners who have worked towards and achieved the relevant Level 2 VRQ in Sports and Fitness or Gym Instruction will be encouraged to progress onto the Level 3 qualification. Learners who can produce evidence of gym/exercise based experience and 4 GCSEs at grade C or above to include English, Double Science and 2 other academic subjects may after the interview process be deemed able to study this qualification. You will be required to complete a short period of work experience in a gym environment during the course. This will be discussed during the induction period. Please note: this qualification will require the learner to partake in physical activity and a degree of physical fitness is necessary. |
