These courses are ideal for anyone wishing to pursue a career in the Art & Design field. Kidderminster College vocational art and design programmes are offered across a range of disciplines, including fine art, 3D, graphic design, textiles and photography. The will allow you to explore your creativity, learn new techniques and specialise in an area of your choice.

Level 3 VRQ in Sports and Fitness

Course Content

This qualification is aimed at learners who already have achieved a Level 2 qualification in Fitness Instructing. The aim of this qualification is to recognise the skills, knowledge and competence required to work unsupervised as a personal trainer. This includes being able to offer one-to-one training, baseline assessment, nutritional advice and progressive programming which is specific to the individual need of the client. The course is made up of the following units:



  • Functional anatomy, physiology and nutrition for sports therapies

  • Applying sports massage methods to non-pathological tissue

  • Supporting clients who take part in exercise and physical activity

  • Health, safety and welfare in a fitness environment

  • Principles of exercise, fitness and health

  • Anatomy and physiology for exercise and health

  • Programming personal training with clients

  • Delivering personal training sessions

  • Applying the principles of nutrition to a physical activity programme


Functional Skills will be incorporated into the programme.

Section: Technology, Public Services and Sport.
Progression routes: Progression to Level 4 qualifications or employment within the Sport and Leisure industry.
Duration: One year full time (35 weeks)
Entry requirements: Learners who have worked towards and achieved the relevant Level 2 VRQ in Sports and Fitness or Gym Instruction will be encouraged to progress onto the Level 3 qualification. Learners who can produce evidence of gym/exercise based experience and 4 GCSEs at grade C or above to include English, Double Science and 2 other academic subjects may after the interview process be deemed able to study this qualification. You will be required to complete a short period of work experience in a gym environment during the course. This will be discussed during the induction period. Please note: this qualification will require the learner to partake in physical activity and a degree of physical fitness is necessary.

Additional costs / materials required: Subject related book. Uniform of polo top, jogging bottoms and white socks and trainers.

Examinations / assessment: Ongoing practical assessments to assess underpinning knowledge within a gym and salon environment. Assignment, project work, multiple choice examination.
