These courses are ideal for anyone wishing to pursue a career in the Art & Design field. Kidderminster College vocational art and design programmes are offered across a range of disciplines, including fine art, 3D, graphic design, textiles and photography. The will allow you to explore your creativity, learn new techniques and specialise in an area of your choice.

Level 3 Creative and Media Diploma Advanced Level

Course Content

The Creative and Media Diploma is a Level 3 course that provides learners with the opportunity to access a curriculum that specialises in creative subjects. These subjects may be Art and Design based, Performing Arts based, Media based or a mixture from all three areas. Learners will respond to briefs/tasks set by employers and engage in work that simulates industry standard creative working environments. Learners will be responsible for planning, creating and reviewing their own creative work as if they were a professional. The diploma is split into 6 areas:



  • Principal Learning

  • Extended Project

  • Functional Skills

  • Personal Learning and Thinking Skills

  • Work Experience

  • Additional and Specialist Learning


Principal Learning This is the main part of the diploma. Learners can study a range of subjects (a minimum of 4) including 2D Art, 3D Art, Craft, Graphic Design, Product Design, Fashion, Textiles, Drama, Dance, Music, Film, Television, Audio/Radio, Advertising, Computer Games and Animation. Marks are awarded for the quality of planning and evaluating as well as creativity.


Extended Project Learners will complete a practical or written project in any subject area of interest to them. This encourages learners to become independent learners and to take complete responsibility for their own learning.


Functional Skills Learners are required to pass Level 2 Functional Skills in Maths, English and ICT. You will have specific lessons in these areas, as well as being given further opportunities to gain skills in Maths, English and ICT within Principal Learning. If learners have already gained Level 2 Functional Skills they are not required to attend these lessons or to retake the exams.


Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS) PLTS are useful skills required by employers and universities. Learners will have opportunities to develop and apply these skills within their Principal Learning. The skills are: Independent Enquiry; Creative Thinking; Reflective Learning; Team Working; Self- Management; Effective Participation.


Work Experience Learners are required to undertake 10 days of work experience. This will involve a placement with a creative and media employer, visits to creative and media employers and sessions with employers within college.


Additional and Specialist Learning Learners will study for a qualification that is equivalent to 1 A Level in a related subject area.

Progression routes: This course provides learners with skills specific to the Creative Industries as well as transferable skills that are highly regarded by all employers and universities.

Entry requirements: GCSE Maths and English and 2 other GCSEs at Grade C or above or equivalent. Higher Level Creative and Media Diploma. Interest and experience in creative subjects. Successful interview.
